Most of u.s. that run up a fair amount consider ourselves either Advanced Beginner or Intermediate sewers. Jane Wow.  It would take a few things for me to consider myself an "avant-garde seamstress."  Heck – I don't even describe myself every bit "intermediate."  I concord with every item from Kitty's, Lynne'due south, and  Jill's thoughts:

• Replicating RTWs
• Pattern drafting
• Great fit for myself and others

I would add the ability to correctly ally patterns & fabric choice for my torso type.  The daring to push the envelope with new techniques and patterns instead of staying with the comfy TNT patterns.  And the absence of the "deer in the headlights" paralyzing effect I sometimes have with projects (y'all know what I talking about).

Overall, I am very content with my current skill level (advanced beginner, mostly because I don't practise collars, cuffs or buttonholes) and the joy I take from sewing.  I would love to accept some new skills and more experience nether my belt.  This takes time and I am OK with that.

In that location is so much to acquire which is part of the reason I love sewing.  In that location is always a new technique /skill around the corner to claiming yous & give you lot opportunities to grow.

I would say that if y'all have mastered the techniques that are required to satisfy these sewing standards, yous are an "Advanced Level" seamstress. If you understand the techniques required to satisfy these standards, just y'all accept simply mastered some of these techniques, yous are an intermediate level seamstress. If you understand what these standards require, but you have not mastered whatsoever of these techniques, you are an advanced beginner. And, finally, if you find yourself request what "basting" and "grain line" mean, you are a beginner.
